San Diego Refugee Tutoring

San Diego Refugee Tutoring (SDRT) has been transforming lives since 2008 by providing free, twice weekly, one-on-one tutoring to over 140 students from refugee families each year. With more than 5,000 hours of tutoring provided annually, SDRT helps students not only succeed in school but also build the confidence to thrive in their new community.

City Heights, where many of our families live, is one of the most diverse and underserved neighborhoods in San Diego:

43% of residents live below the poverty line

36.9% are foreign-born, and over 30 languages are spoken here

Refugee youth often face language barriers and educational challenges, yet their resilience inspires us daily

At SDRT, our students come from countries like Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Haiti, and more—bringing incredible diversity and a shared desire for a brighter future.

How You Can Help:

✅ Share this video to spread the word about SDRT’s impact.

Every action you take helps us bridge gaps in education, build brighter futures, and celebrate the incredible potential of refugee students in San Diego.

Let’s work together to create a community where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
